I am the Interim Director of Alumni Relations at Warren Wilson College in Asheville North Carolina which was started by the Presbyterian Church. A few days ago, the Reverend Howard Boswell came by my office. He met a student who just returned from China visiting his mother and was mourning the lost of his father who past away in December '09. Howard took the time to show him compassion and hope. Howard remembered his college days here at Warren Wilson which made the student feel very cared for. I was so impressed. I looked your church history up on the internet and read this sermon given during lent, "Alabaster Box-What love requires", it was a blessing to me. The message of a servant leader who will serve with the kindness and grace following Jesus is what helps me and all of us to be a blessing to others. There are so many good deeds we do but it is the ones done that go without saying are truly grace filled. I ask for your prayers for the Chinese student, his name is Pengye and our College. It will make a difference. Pengye stopped by my office today to say thank you for meeting Rev Boswell. Maybe one day I will have the opportunity to visit your parish, many blessings, Rodney Lytle.

Maarriette,
Just put one foot in front of the other and come on down to church. You won't regret it.

Wow, Howard. Beautifully written and I'm sure delivered as well. I really identify with Thomas now at this stage of my life. I don't believe any more. At 15 I did. I feel so bruised by all that we have encountered these past 7 or so years in our lives. I'm worn out. I keep trying to pray but nothing happens except more bad stuff. Where has God gone? I feel like Jesus did when he felt so alone when the disciples all fell asleep, except He just doesn't seem to come around. I wish it was 3 days but it's been years! I remember those songs and I loved them but now when I read the words and remember the songs, it means so little... How do you get it all back? Neither Charlie nor I go to Church any more. I stopped trying because I felt like I was the one always pushing our family. So I quit. I'm not into religion for the "sake of the kids". I need it in my heart and that is a frozen tundra right now.
Anyhow, I'm going to print your sermon and share with C. and read it again. It is wonderful to reconnect with you all on FB.

Dear Pastor Boswell,
Please let the Stewardship Team know that I would like to get on board with a pledge committment. You wrote a beautiful letter describing the situation. It made me think of the sound of the middle "C" on the piano. I think it is because, I see so many wonderful great things happening at this church. Your sermons are excellent and so rewarding because they give us thoughts to take home and work on throughout the week. I really like what you and the Church Session have done to make the life of being a Christian so meaningful to each member. In addition, the Life After Church program is so fantastic. It gives us a BIG, Great Bonus of more knowledge and fellowship. I also wanted to add that the music program and children's program are outstanding too. Any, family would be so pleased to see the outstanding work at this church and they would want to be here too. I am so glad to see that the members are participating in all age groups and they do so - so joyfully. I also think they do it with great Honor. Wow! Thank you!

Hi, Ashley. We did not go off site and we did it after worship on Kick-Off Sunday. It worked out OK. We followed the approach laid out in the resources and only made a few time adjustments to keep it to an hour. Hope that helps.

My church is getting ready to begin the 40 Days of Purpose campaign beginning in April. I am on the Small Group/Connect committee and was wondering what your connect event looked like. Did you go off site or did you use your own facility? What did the evening/afternoon consist of? Thanks for any help you can give me.
